Don’t Look Back

But Lot’s wife, behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt (Gen 19:26)

Most of us have heard about, or read the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. if you have not, refer to Genesis chapter 19. Start with chapter 18, just for a little more back ground on Abraham’s intercession for Sodom. The sins of these cities were so great that God destroyed them. Before doing so, two Angels appeared before Lot and urged him to take his daughters and his wife and leave the city less they perish with it. When God tells you to leave things and people behind and follow Him, do it expeditiously. Do not ask questions, or think about it, just do it! The bible tells us that warning comes before destruction (Heb 2:1), The Angels warned Lot what was to come and begged him to heed the warning. He dragged his feet and was from what I could see was hesitant, “And while he lingered, the men took hold of his hand, his wife’s, and the hands of his two daughters, the Lord being ,merciful to him, and they had brought him out and set him outside of the city” (Gen 19:16).

Now I can only imagine the thoughts that ran through their minds. They were being taking out of their comfort zones to trust God, thinking that their lives are better off in Sodom. God never takes anything from us, without recompense. As they journeys away from the city, something caught hold of Lot’s wife. Her thoughts became consumed with what was behind her. She wasn’t ready to give it all up. She was comfortable in sin. She burned with desire to take one last look, a glimpse of what she thought were shattered hopes and dreams. There in that moment, she so quickly forgot about the instructions that she was given. Now you may say, the angels gave Lot the information, but that’s what God does! Man is the head of his household, so God speaks to the man who shares it with his family. She had a choice to make, listen to my husband and be obedient to God, or disobey my husband and in turn disobey God. She made her choice and she looked back, and she became a pillar of salt (Gen 19:26). Obedience is always better than sacrifice my friends. Thank you for reading and stopping by my page.
